Winter War
The Winter War began with a Soviet invasion of Finland in November 1939, and ended three and a half months later with the Moscow Peace Treaty on 13 March 1940.

Founding of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was founded on April 4th, 1949, in the aftermath of the Second World War. Its purpose was to secure peace in Europe, and promote cooperation among its members and to guard their freedom – all of this in the context of countering the threat posed at the time by the Soviet Union.

Orthodox Church of Ukraine
For more than 400 years, the Orthodox church in Ukraine was aligned with the Moscow Patriarch. But in 2018, Ukraine was granted the right to an independent church.
