Collection spotlight: Chinese art from the 'Musée des Arts Décoratifs' in Paris
16 November 2018

Les Arts Décoratifs, founded in Paris in 1882 under the name 'Union centrale des arts décoratifs', encompasses a wealth of Chinese artefacts. Many of these were acquired during the first few decades of the institution's history; others were gifted to the museum by generous donors.
France witnessed a great fascination with Chinese art in the late 19th and early 20th century - especially with its distinct techniques and materials, forms and motifs. These older artefacts are complimented by more recent additions to the collection, such as propaganda posters and industrial designs pieces.
