June Preview

June looks like it is going to be a fantastic month as summer begins to show here in the UK and the kids are back from school.

It looks to be an equally exciting and interesting time for events and anniversaries. Among those to watch out for this month are:

Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings: Opening 12th June

Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings ​ features many of the artists most celebrated pieces and shines a light on her early botanical works. The show also includes several works which have never been placed on public view before. 

The Swedish painter Hilma af Klint is recognised as a pioneer of abstract art and is considered one of the truly imaginative and innovative female artists of the early 20th century.

The Medici Portraits & Politics, 1512-1570: Major New Exhibition at the MET

The Medici Portraits & Politics, 1512-1570: Opening 26th June

This exhibition features over 90 works including drawings, medals, and paintings of Florence's elite during a time of great change in the city.

Included are works by the period's most celebrated artists, from Raphael, Jacopo Pontormo, and Rosso Fiorentino to Benvenuto Cellini, Agnolo Bronzino, and Francesco Salviati.

Sotheby's Luxury Week incorporates their Magnificent Jewels sale. On sale will be some of the finest examples of jewels and jewellery in the world. Gems worn by some of the world's elite. ​

Names such as Cartier, Sterlé, René Boivinto and Van Cleef & Arpels are abound and available to discerning collectors looking for special designs dating from the 19th Century to the present day.

Anna Atkins: Trail blazing Photographer

150 Years since Anna Atkins death - 9th June

Anna Atkins was an English botanist and photographer. She is often considered the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographic images, British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. Some sources say that she was the first woman to create a photograph.
