8 November 1602 - The Bodleian Library was founded. It is the primary research library of the University of Oxford and one of the oldest libraries in Europe. In November 2021, a fragment from a 12th Century French poem previously believed to have been lost forever was found by an academic in the Bodleian Library. (Bodleian Library c.1900. 9-10 November 1872 - 150 years ago, the Great Boston Fire raged for 12 hours, destroying 776 buildings and much of the financial district. 10 November 1885 - the world's first combustion engine-powered motorcycle, called the Reitwagen (Riding Car), was unveiled in Germany by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach. 11 November 1880 - Notorious Australian bushranger and outlaw Ned Kelly was hanged for his crimes at the Old Melbourne Gaol. Kelly is the subject of more biographies than any other Australian, and the nation remains divided as to whether he was a folk hero or a contemptible criminal.
